The Girls Varsity Team Won Quissa Tournament

Bears won in a penalty shoot-out

Over the past 2 months, the Menor girl’s varsity soccer team earned one of the most important acknowledgments of the season by winning the QUISSA Tournament on March 2 with a win in a penalty shoot-out over Colegio Americano.

“I feel very happy with the performance of the team,” said head coach Monica Caiza. “We won a very difficult match and came back with a score that was impossible for many except for me.”

The championship game started with a huge challenge for Menor, as they were losing 2-0 after Americano scored two goals in the first half. The Bears team did not give up and still put in their best effort in order to score two goals to respond in the same period.

Both goals were made by Paula Verdezoto, who is in grade 11.  Regulation time ended with the score tied at 2-2 and Menor secured the victory in a suspenseful penalty shoot-out.

“What can be highlighted the most is the attitude of all,” added Caiza. “They never gave up and realized that they can achieve (anything) if they have a positive mind and believe in their abilities.”

In the penalty shoot-out Americano scored 3 goals and Menor scored 4 goals made by Paula Verdezoto, Emilia Espinoza, Maria Emilia Villalba, and Valentina Mosquera. And for the last penalty of Americano, Sophia Espinel the goalkeeper of Menor did a great job and covered the penalty. By these Menor won the Quissa tournament of 2023.

It has been an excellent tournament for the Girl’s Varsity team and we hope to see more winnings.
