With a victory in their first game, the Colegio Menor varsity girls’ futbol team is feeling confident in their abilities to achieve greatness heading into a brand new season.

Grace Enriquez and Monica Caiza are entering their second seasons as the coaches of the Bears. According to Enriquez, the objective of the season is to win all their futbol tournaments and games, and by doing so, they want to put the school’s name on the top of the list of good programs in the area.

“The girls’ futbol team’s strengths are that they support each other and they have a strong friendship,” Enriques said.

The Bears won their first game of the season on October 22, 2022, against Letort, by a score of 4-0. Goals were scored by, Valentina Mosquera, Sara Arteaga, Agustina Carvajal, and Emilia Espinoza.

“The team is ready,” said Enriquez. “We have been training three days a week, where two days we play until 6 p.m. Having this schedule has shown that the team is responsible and this type of training has been showing good results.”

Mosquera, a junior and captain of the team, was proud of her team’s first effort of the season.

“The team did really well,” said Mosquera. “We have trained a lot and each one of us has put a bunch of effort to get good results and all the effort was reflected on the field.”

Looking to the future, Mosquera told us that the team is ready for future tournaments because of the dedication that each teammate puts into their training.

“The difference each person has of thinking, playing, makes a balance for the team to communicate and make a good game,” Mosquera said. “We are a family, and we always support each other.”

Junior Valentina Toledo, a forward on the team, also has high hopes for the remainder of the season.

“For being the first game of the season, the team did a great job by having good communication, good plays passes, and overall good scores,” said Toledo.

On Friday, November 11, the Bears played against Unidad Educativa Gonzalo Rules and were able to win 10 to 1.

In the future, the team has an important tournament that is going to be played in February. The team will participate in the Quito International Schools Sports Association (QUISSA), where they are going to show off all their hard work and their skills.
